Seattle and his Seattleites - or the secret of the "Space Schniedel"...:D

Auch wenn die 6 Tage für Vancouver alleine schon zu kurz sind, hatte ich trotzdem auch zwei Personen versprochen, nach Seattle zu kommen. Zum einer der Jo, die ich beim couchsurfen in Ho-Chi-Minh-City getroffen habe und dann noch dem Thies, den ich in San Francisco im Hostel getroffen habe. Ich hab zwei Nächte bei Jo übernachtet, quasi „couchgesurft“...;) Am ersten Abend war dann auch gleich eine Couchsurfing-Party bei einigen Leuten im Haus. Das war ein ziemlich witziger Abend, bei dem man mal wieder mit vielen anderen Reisenden ins Gespräch kam. Außerdem war das auch gleich die Abschlussfeier von zwei von ihnen, die jetzt erstmal für 8 Monate nach Afrika gehen.

Am nächsten Tag hab ich mich dann mit Thies getroffen, der gerade auf Austauschsemester in Seattle ist. Er und zwei seiner Freunde, auch Deutsche, der Torben und der Sebastian, wollten das Safeco-Field besichtigen gehen. Mit einer dezenten Verspätung meinerseits, die aus völliger Planlosigkeit, die richtigen öffentlichen Verkehrsmittel zu nutzen und das richtige Stadion zu finden, resultierte, hab ich die drei dann auch gefunden und wir haben uns das Stadion angesehen, was schon ein ziemlich cooler Bau ist. Mal abgesehen von den Löchern der ganzen eingeschlagenen Bälle in den Sprecherkabinen war es auch ziemlich nett, mal in den Katakomben umher zu laufen. Auch die Gedanken, die man sich beim Bau bezüglich Erdbeben und Ähnlichem gemacht hat, waren echt beeindruckend. Kein Wunder, dass der Bau 500 Millionen Dollar gekostet hat...und dann sind die Mariners nicht mal nen wirklich gutes Team...;)

Dann haben wir noch eine Pressekonferenz nachgestellt, ehe wir zum Experience Music Project sind, einem Musikmuseum von Paul Allen, dem Microsoft-Mitbegründer, mit einer Jimmi Hendrix-Austellung, Hunderten von Gitarren und einem verdammt witzigen Bereich, in dem man selbst Instrumente ausprobieren durfte. Umso besser, wenn man nicht die geringste Ahnung hat, wie man ein Instrument spielt. Aufgeblüht sind wir vier dann zunächst im Vocals-Raum bei „Smells like teen spirit“ von Nirvana und später besser bekannt als „The Crazy Dudes“ auf der Bühne im EMP mit einer relativ gewagten und leicht fragwürdigen Performance zu „I love Rock’n’Roll. Danach wurden wir aus dem EMP verbannt und mit einem lebenslangen Hausverbot belegt...:D Naja so schlimm wars nicht, aber das Mädel, was uns bei der Performance zuhören musste, hat uns schon echt leid getan...;) Zwischendurch, quasi obligatorisch, sind wir dann noch am Space „Schniedel“ vorbei gelaufen, hochgehen lohnt sich aber wohl eher nicht!

Nachdem wir gescheitert sind, zu zweit mit nur einem (!) Reisepass aber einem weiteren Personalausweis und Führerschein eine Flasche Whiskey für den Abend im Liquor Store zu kaufen, mussten wir nochmal durch die halbe Stadt laufen, um nach einem weiteren zu suchen...Die amerikanischen Alkoholgesetze sind ja mal mit allem Respekt betrachtet so was von lächerlich...egal, später abends sind wir dann noch feiern gewesen in einem kleinen Club voll mit Studenten, war echt ziemlich cool, mit Ausnahme dessen, dass natürlich um zwei Uhr nachts schon alles zu macht...Danke an euch drei, war nen echt cooler Tag und auch vielen Dank an Jo, dass du mich zwei Nächte bei dir in deiner „bescheidenen Villa“ ausgehalten hast...;)

6 days only for Vancouver are already too short, but I also promised two guys to visit them in Seattle. First Jo, I met her at the couchsurfing place in Ho-Chi-Minh-City and Thies, I met him in the hostel in San Francisco. I was couchsurfing for two nights at Jo’s house and on the first evening there was a couchsurfing party at a house of some other guys. It was a really funny evening with a lot of travelers. And two of the guys were on their way to Africa for 8 months.

At the next day I met Thies. He is doing an exchange term in Seattle. He and two of his friends, also Germans, Torben and Sebastian, wanted to go to the Safeco-Field, the Baseball stadium. With a little delay of myself because of having no idea how to use the public transport in the right way and how to find the right stadium we finally met at the stadium and took a tour. It is a really cool building with holes of the balls where the press guys are seating. Also how they managed including the problems of earthquakes in building this stadium was really impressive. So it is quiet obvious that the stadium wasn’t really cheap with about 500 million bucks…and this for an almost average skilled team…;)

After our “own” press conference we went to the Experience Music Project, a music museum from Paul Allen, one of the founders of Microsoft. It has a Jimmi Hendrix exhibition, hundreds of guitars and a really funny area where you are allowed to try instruments on your own. Even funnier if you don’t have any idea how to play an instrument :D After that we had an awesome performance in the vocals room “singing” “Smells like teen spirit“ from Nirvana before showing all our skills in performing “I love Rock’n’Roll” on the stage. After that we were banned from the EMP and are not allowed to come back again our whole life…:D No it’s not that bad, but there was a really poor girl, who had to listen to our whole strange and “ambitious” performance…;) We also passed the Space Needle, but we didn’t get up, didn’t seem to be worth!

After that two of us failed to get a bottle of Whiskey in a Liquor Store with just one Passport and an additional German ID and German drivers license, so we had to walk through the whole city to find another store… The American Alcohol laws are really ridiculous, with all the respect I can give…doesn’t matter, later in the evening we went to a small club full with students, really cool, with one exception, they closed at 2am…Thank you guys, I had a really cool day with you and also a big thanks to Jo for hosting me for two days in your “small mansion”…;)
